Mauma Man is a song that is older than Boom Bye Bye that has very crude language and ideas expressed within it. The artist Shabba Ranks says, ““it’s not right, it is wrong, a man a push his penis in a shit tank… gunshot is the solution, the one them that carry aids in our island, no homosexual my friend….if man from Jamaica would legalize gun, to kill battyman would be the greatest one, bow, bow, and them get shot down, …” These lyrics say that the act of anal sex itself is wrong. A man should not be taking part in these sexual acts. The only thing that would solve this “problem” would be to shoot the individuals who take part in it. Ranks says, Homosexuals are not welcome on the island of Jamaica and if guns were legalized they greatest act would killing them. These lyrics actively police and reinforce ideas and behaviors that were taught during slavery.These ideas that homosexuality is wrong was introduced through religion and the belief that the “right” man is a heterosexual man. This belief was emphasized through the hypersexuality that took place as a result of men overcompensating for their masculinity that was devalued during the time of slavery.
